Moving day

This past weekend I helped my friend Jess move from Fort Collins to Pagosa Springs. Colorado had a massive spring snow storm with 15" of snow on Thursday so I was kind of nervous to head up in the high country. I was actually snowed in at work Thursday night, thank goodness I work at a hotel! Luckily the sun came out and melted off the roads and we had mostly clear driving. Saturday we had to drive to Greeley to pick up Jess' UHaul. As soon as she pulled out of the parking lot I realized the back latch wasn't closed and soon enough the entire door had risen so we had to pull over and latch it down. Luckily, it was empty at that time.

The drive down was awesome mostly because of the two way radios Jess had bought. I had a ball being the Snowman (Smokey and the Bandit reference). The only sketchy part was between Jefferson and Fairplay where there were white out conditions and snowpacked roads. Being the conscientious driver that I am, I took pictures of the horrible road conditions. We made it to Pagosa by 5:30 and dropped off the Uhaul at 6:30. We rock. Sunday we stopped at the Great Sand Dunes because they were on the way (kind of). This was the third time I'd been there and they still amaze me. This was a momentous road trip because it'll be our last for a long while. Now Jess will be the full time worker and I'll be the one back in school. We've had a hell of a time over the past year covering Colorado, New Mexico and Kansas. Check out my Facebook page for all the pictures. You have to see it to believe it. Coming in July...the rendezvous at the Grand Canyon!!

Planning

Well the big trip is a few months away, and I am in the early stages of planning right now. I've got a ton of stops along the way to plan out, in what makes up the craziest loop home I think I could have possibly come up with. Yep thats right, come July I'll be driving from Colorado to New York, via Montana...and Texas. This is actually a much more sensible plan than what it originally was. I was going to help my friend Jess move to Fairbanks and then drive home to New York from there. It fell through, otherwise I'd of been traveling from Colorado to New York via the Arctic Circle....which even I can recognize as being a bit out of the way. Yep, life has got some big changes in store for me. In the fall I'll be starting grad school in New York and I am pretty excited about it. Now it's time to see America while I've got the time. Look out Open Road, here I come!
